What Chapter Web Tools Does ASSP Offer?

Every ASSP chapter has a website, an email marketing account, role-based officer email addresses, and more. You don’t need to sign up for anything. New officers just need to be given access, which is done through a support ticket.

This page is a starting point for new chapter leaders. It lists each tool, what it’s for, and where to read more.

Your chapter website

Your chapter site lives on the ASSP WordPress network at yourchapter.assp.org. ASSP handles hosting, security, backups, updates, and the theme, so volunteers only manage content.

Approved officers and volunteers get a WordPress Editor account. Request one through a support ticket with your name, chapter, and officer role.

With an Editor account you can manage:

The Officers page fills in automatically from the ASSP membership database. To change who is listed, contact Chapter Services at chapterservices@assp.org. Each officer updates their own headshot in their assp.org profile.

Sending email to your members (Real Magnet)

Your chapter already has a Real Magnet account for meeting alerts, newsletters, and event promotions. “Higher Logic” and “Real Magnet” are the same tool: Real Magnet is the email product, and Higher Logic is the company that owns it.

Real Magnet is synced with ASSP membership data, so your lists stay current with your roster. It also keeps chapter email compliant with the CAN-SPAM Act, which requires opt-out links and other safeguards on bulk email.

To get access as a new officer:

  1. Open a support ticket asking for Real Magnet access for your chapter.
  2. Include the email address you want the login tied to. A role-based address is best (see below).
  3. On your first login, Real Magnet will email you a one-time activation code. See Logging In to Real Magnet.

If the account is still tied to a past officer’s email, the activation code goes to them. Ask us to update it in the same ticket.

Once you’re in, these guides walk through sending:

To reach non-members, such as event guests or prospective members, contact us through a support ticket before sending. Non-member contacts must have opted in to receive chapter email.

Events and registration (Event Espresso)

Event Espresso is built into your chapter website and handles event listings, tickets, and registration for both members and guests. You use your website Editor login to manage it.

Published chapter events also appear on your region’s shared calendar automatically.

Membership reports

Chapter leaders can pull member lists from the ASSP reporting portal, including new members and upcoming membership anniversaries. Reports draw from the ASSP membership database, so they match what Real Magnet and your Officers page use.

See Membership Reports for Volunteer Leaders for which reports are available and how to sign in.

Free tools and guides

The Tools page has free, no-login helpers for chapter volunteers:

The Guides section covers writing for your site, press releases, content calendars, free images and copyright, alt text, public Google Forms, and adding a countdown timer.

For logos and brand guidelines, see the Chapter Communities Marketing Kit.

Your chapter Google account

ASSP provides a Google account for your chapter. Use it for Google Drive, Google Forms, and Google Meet, so chapter files and meetings stay with the chapter when officers change.

To get access as a new officer, open a support ticket. When you hand off to the next officer, see Transferring Access to a Shared Chapter Google Account.

Tools your chapter manages itself

ASSP does not provide Zoom or Microsoft accounts, and cannot reset their passwords. If your chapter uses them, or runs a chapter LinkedIn page, set them up with a role-based email so they pass to the next officer:

Officer email: ASSP address or company email?

Use your chapter’s role-based ASSP address for chapter business. Every chapter has addresses like president@yourchapter.assp.org and secretary@yourchapter.assp.org.

These addresses belong to the role, not the person. When officers change, the inbox, its history, and any accounts tied to it pass to the next officer. Chapter mail sent from a company or personal address leaves with that volunteer.

Use each tool for its job:

  • Role-based email (webmail): one-to-one and small-group messages under about 20 people, plus sign-ups for LinkedIn, PayPal, Zoom, and similar accounts
  • Real Magnet: any message to your full membership or a large list, such as meeting alerts

You can read your role-based email in webmail, through Gmail, or on your phone. If you’d rather check one inbox, you can forward it to your own address. See all Role Specific Emails articles.

Logins and passwords for new officers

If you don’t know your chapter’s logins, you don’t need to track down the last officer. Open one support ticket with your name, chapter, and role, and list what you need:

  • A website Editor account
  • Real Magnet access, or an update to the login email
  • The password for your role-based email
  • Access to your chapter Google account

ASSP can’t recover Zoom, Microsoft, or LinkedIn passwords. For those, get back into the role-based inbox first, then use that service’s own password reset.

Don’t keep chapter passwords in a shared document or transition packet. Hand them off with a password manager, or have the outgoing officer reset them with you.
