Spam & Junk Mail

Spam Filters

Your email account includes server-level spam filtering. Suspected spam is typically delivered to a Spam or Junk folder rather than deleted outright.

To adjust spam filter settings:

  1. Log in to webmail at https://[chapter].assp.org/webmail.
  2. From the webmail home screen, click Spam Filters.
  3. Here you can:
    • Enable or disable Apache SpamAssassin
    • Set the spam score threshold (lower = more aggressive filtering)
    • Configure auto-delete for messages above a certain score
    • Add specific email addresses or domains to a whitelist (always allow) or blacklist (always block)

Tip: Check your Spam folder periodically. Legitimate messages can occasionally be misidentified as spam.

BoxTrapper

BoxTrapper is an additional spam protection layer that requires senders to verify themselves before their message reaches your inbox.

  • When an unrecognized sender emails you, they automatically receive a verification challenge.
  • Only senders who complete the challenge have their message delivered.
  • BoxTrapper is best suited for accounts receiving a high volume of spam, but can create friction for legitimate senders.

To enable BoxTrapper:

  1. From the webmail home screen, click BoxTrapper.
  2. Follow the prompts to enable it and configure your whitelist of known contacts.

Note: Most chapter leaders will find the standard spam filter sufficient. BoxTrapper is optional.
