Chapter sites come with a set of premade sidebars (About, Events, Footer, Footer Social, Header, Home, Jobs, Masthead, News, Sidebar, Upcoming Events, etc.). Rather than building a sidebar from scratch, you simply choose which premade sidebar should display on a given page.
Setting a Page’s Sidebar
- In the WordPress dashboard, go to Pages > All Pages and open the page you want to edit.
- On the right side of the editor, open the Page tab (if it isn’t already selected).
- Scroll down to the Sidebars panel.
- Click the Sidebar dropdown and choose the premade sidebar you want to display on this page (e.g., Events, Jobs, News).
- Click Save (or Update) in the top-right corner to apply your change.
Tip: If you don’t see the Sidebars panel, make sure you’re on the Page tab, not the Block tab, in the right-hand settings panel.
Choosing the Right Sidebar
Pick the sidebar that matches the type of content on the page:
- About — general informational pages (leadership, mission, history, etc.)
- Events / Upcoming Events — event listing or event detail pages
- Jobs — job board pages
- News — news/blog listing pages
- Footer / Footer Social / Header / Masthead — site-wide layout areas, not typically set per page
- Sidebar — the general-purpose default sidebar for pages that don’t fit another category
Note: These sidebars are premade and shared across the site — you’re selecting which one to display, not creating a new one. If you need a sidebar with different content or widgets than what’s available, submit a support ticket to discuss options.
Troubleshooting
- My sidebar change isn’t showing on the live site. Try clearing your browser cache — see Clearing Your Browser Cache.
- I don’t see a Sidebars panel at all. This setting is only available on pages built with the standard page editor. If it’s missing, submit a support ticket.
