Create Download

Updated on June 22, 2026

Downloads are managed through the Download Monitor plugin, which adds a dedicated Downloads menu to your WordPress dashboard — separate from Posts. Each download entry stores the file and its details, and can be placed on any page using a shortcode or block.

Steps

1. Go to Downloads → Add New

From your WordPress dashboard, hover over Downloads in the left sidebar and click Add New.

2. Add a Title

Enter a descriptive title for the file — for example, 2024 Meeting Minutes – October or Chapter Bylaws (Revised 2025). This is what members will see as the download label.

3. Add a Description (Optional)

Use the content area below the title to add context about the file — what it is, who it’s for, or when it was last updated.

4. Upload the File

Scroll down to the Downloadable Files/Versions section and click Add File. Then click Upload File to select a file from your computer or choose one already in the Media Library.

Supported formats include PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), and common image formats. PDFs are recommended for documents shared with members.

5. Assign a Category (Optional)

In the right sidebar, locate the Download Categories panel and check the appropriate category (e.g., Meeting Minutes, Bylaws, Presentations). Categories help members find related files. See Set Category on Download Items for more.

6. Publish

Click Publish in the top-right corner. The download is now live and can be linked or embedded on any chapter page.

Displaying the Download on a Page

Once published, each download has a shortcode you can copy from the download’s edit screen. Paste it into any post or page, or use the Download Monitor block in the block editor to select and display it.

Note: Only users with the Editor role or higher can add and publish downloads. If you don’t see the Downloads menu, contact your chapter’s website administrator.
